The story above is "Perfection at the Plate", a work of Rabbi Paysach Krohn -- the child's name was really Shaya. It is supposed to be true and the kids on the team were at a Jewish religious school -- thus making the story more likely to be true. (As in they were from a small community; they knew Shaya and his dad, religious schools teach kindness.)
